HAMPTON, Va. - As they sang Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On," city and community leaders in the city say there are far too many people dying.

They were wearing orange for national Gun Violence Awareness Day. While the day was going on around the country, it hit close to home for many. "We all thought that we'd be graduating together," said one 2014 Phoebus High grad as she remembered some of her classmates who were killed. "Not all of us were afforded that opportunity."

The latest killing in the city happened on Wednesday night. Someone shot and killed 19-year old Jonathan Powers near North King Street and Huffman Drive. Police released surveillance pictures of a person they want to talk to about the shooting.

Speakers at the rally said they had to reach the vulnerable people. "You have to have passion and a grassroots mentality that lets you leave your suit at home and go to where they are," said the Phoebus grad.

One of the groups trying to reach those people is called A Few Good Men, Inc. A speaker said they've done enough talking. It's time to be out in the community.
