Hampton shooting now a homicide investigation after 19-year-old victim dies

HAMPTON, Va. - A 19-year-old died early Thursday morning after a shooting in Hampton on Wednesday night.

Hampton Police were called to the intersection of North King Street and Huffman Drive around 8:45 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about a shooting.

Officers arrived on the scene and found a man near the road suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, Jonathan Powers, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.

Powers died as a result of his injuries at 1:23 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police say the motive and circumstances around the shooting remain under investigation. The case is now being investigated as a homicide.

There is no suspect information at this time.
