Man will serve 35 years for 2012 Smithfield murder

Smithfield, Va. – A man found guilty for a 2012 murder in Smithfield was sentenced Thursday.

Shymeek Stanfield will serve a total of 35 years in prison for the murder and robbery of Travis Newby.

Newby was killed in December of 2012 during a robbery attempt.

Stanfield was sentenced to 45 years with 20 years suspended for the 1st Degree Murder charge, 12 years with five years suspended for the Robbery charge, and three years for the Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony charge.
