Franklin, Va. – Police have formally charged Tremaine Porter with a rape that happened on the first of the year.

Porter has been formally charged in connection with the rape and abduction of a Franklin woman on New Year’s night.

Tremaine M. Porter, age 26, of the 7600 Block of Harvest Drive in Suffolk has been charged with rape, abduction with intent to defile, object sexual penetration, possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon, and three counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Porter has been held without bond in Western Tidewater Regional Jail since being charged with raping two Franklin women back in July.

Police say around 2 a.m. New Year’s morning, a 55-year-old woman was raped at gunpoint while walking home from a church service on Armory Drive.

That’s near Gardner Street.

Police say Porter first tried to rob the woman – but when she told him she had no money – he forced her behind a home and assaulted her.
