Virginia Beach, Va. - Bridgette Rue woke up Tuesday morning to police banging on her door. They told her that her husband Christopher Rue had been stabbed repeatedly while running along Little Neck Road.

"He was so injured, he was so badly hurt. and he was really scared," said Bridgette Rue.

Before sunrise, Rue, who's a sailor, was four and a half miles into his jog.

"So he was already really exhausted and the guy came up to him, as he was jogging and Chris slowed down because you know it's a friendly neighborhood," Bridgette Rue said. "And the guy asked him for the time and when Chris went to look in his pocket for his cell phone, which he didn't have anyway, the guy jumped him and just attacked him."

Rue was stabbed on his right side. His wife says he then put his arms up to block his attacker.

"His hands got very badly cut up and when he turned to get away, he was stabbed in the back and it was terrifying for him."

The attacker got away. Rue looked for help, trying to wake people in nearby homes.
At 4:30 in the morning, he wasn't welcomed even as the sailor was fighting for his life.

"They just thought he was a crazy person and no one helped him. They actually threatened him away from the home and called the police on him," Bridgette Rue said.

There was fear Rue would lose his kidney. He's doing better now, and is in Portsmouth Naval Medical Center where he is slowly recovering.

With the medication it's tough for him to go into detail about what happened on this trail Tuesday morning.

"He wakes up and it's like he's having a dream and he starts talking about it and he starts like reliving it," Bridgette Rue said. "And he gets so excited that monitors go off and I have to try and calm him."
