Subway uproar: Chain responds to ‘Footlong’ claims

One customer posted this photo on Facebook, asking subway why their foot-long sandwiches aren't a foot long.

The Subway uproar continues.

Subway has responded to claims its Footlong subs aren’t actually 12 inches in length.

Earlier this week, The Huffington Post reported a customer in Australia took a tape measure to the sandwich chain’s footlong sandwich and complained in a post on Subway’s page that it was an inch short.

Others then complained about the same issue.

At the time, a Subway spokesperson told The Huffington Post, “We always strive for our customers to have the most positive experience possible, and we believe this was an isolated case in which the bread preparation procedures were unfortunately not allowed.”

Since, BuzzFeed reports that Subway Australia posted a response saying the footlong is “a registered trademark as a descriptive name for the sub sold in Subway Restaurants and not intended to be measurement of length. The length of the bread baked in the restaurant cannot be assured each time as the proofing process may vary slightly each time in the restaurant.”
