Virginia Beach, Va. - Police are now investigating after a gun was found at Star of the Sea Catholic School.
According to Jimmy Barnes with the Virginia Beach Police Department, a gun was found on the playground at Star of the Sea Catholic School in Virginia Beach. Police say it happened between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The gun was allegedly found by a student, near a marsh area, next to some trees.
Officials say the student spotted the gun, and immediately told a teacher. The teacher then notified the principal, who contacted police.

Police responded, and found the gun. They say the playground where it was found is located near a street, and has a fence around it. The investigating officer believes the gun was tossed over the fence or temporarily hidden. None of the children touched the gun.
Police say the students recently were a part of a gun safety program at school, where they were instructed to contact a teacher or faculty member if they ever spotted a gun. Police say the students followed instructions during this incident.
