Update: Lockdown lifted at elementary schools in Newport News

Update: Earlier, three schools were put on lockdown as police searched for a fugitive in the area. The lockdowns have been lifted and no other schools are under any kind of threat school officials say. 

Police are still searching for the fugitive. 

Newport News, Va. – Three elementary schools have been put on lockdown, school officials tell NewsChannel 3.

McIntosh Elementary

Greenwood Elementary School

Richneck Elementary School

Wanted fugitive escapes from U.S. Marshals on I-64; Schools locked-down

School officials say if the fugitive has not been caught when they are ready to dismiss students, they will do a modified dismissal, where a small number of students will be released at a time. Parents and caregivers are being asked to pick up students that walk.

Officials say middle school and high schools in the area have already dismissed.
