CHESAPEAKE, Va. - A man was injured and several others were displaced after an early morning house fire caused severe damage on Thursday.

Chesapeake firefighters received the call at 2:25 a.m., from the South Norfolk section of Chesapeake, the 1300 block of Poindexter Street.

Crews arrived five minutes later and say they found heavy flames from the two story home.

All residents were able to exit but reports say a man suffered burn injuries as was transported by Chesapeake medics to a local emergency room.

There were five pets in the home and of those, two dogs escaped safely. Fire crews are continuing to work on hot spots.

Officials say all the residents affected have made alternative lodging arrangements.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
