Woman in critical condition following Hampton apartment fire; 3 adults, 1 child displaced

HAMPTON, Va. - A 60-year-old woman is in critical condition following an early-Friday morning apartment fire in the 1900 block of Kecoughtan Road.

According to the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue, the call for the fire came in at 12:35 a.m. When crews arrived, they reported light smoke coming from a second-floor apartment.

One woman was reported to be in the home, and crews found her unconscious in the apartment. She was rescued and taken to a local hospital.

The fire was contained to the room of origin, the kitchen, and extinguished within approximately 15 minutes. The residence sustained minor fire, smoke, and water damage.

Two apartment units were impacted by the fire, causing the displacement of three adults and one minor. The American Red Cross is assisting.

The department said the fire appears to be accidental in nature.
