Suffolk Public Works refuse truck catches on fire in Applewood neighborhood

SUFFOLK, Va. - Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded to a fire involving a Suffolk Public Works refuse truck in the Applewood neighborhood Tuesday morning.

Crews responded to a fire in the 200 block of Jonathans Way after receiving a call at 11:36 a.m.

When firefighters arrived they found the refuse truck on fire.

Two vehicles parked in a nearby driveway, as well a home next door, also sustained heat damage as a result of the fire.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and the truck was taken to the Regional Landfill to offload the remaining debris, where crews ensured the fire was fully out. Officials say there were no injuries.

Responding units included Engines 1, 6, and 9; Ladder 6, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Tanker 9, Medic 9, Safety 1, and Car 1.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
