SUSSEX Co., Va. - A 77-year-old Florida man died after his truck ran off the road on I-95 north in Sussex County Wednesday afternoon.

Virginia State Police got a call about an RV/camper that was fully engulfed in flames around 12:21 p.m. The crash happened around the 33-mile marker.

After a preliminary investigation, officials say the man, identified as 77-year-old Kenneth Richard Friedman, was driving northbound on I-95 when his 2010 Ford F250 ran off the road and hit a tree.

The truck was pulling a horse trailer with four horses inside.

Once the truck hit the tree, the vehicle jackknifed and hit another tree, causing the truck and trailer to catch fire.

Both vehicles were fully engulfed, and Friedman and two horses died as a result. Friedman was burned beyond recognition.

State Police say the other two horses survived the crash.

The northbound lanes of I-95 were closed while officials investigated.
