'She was just a lovely girl': Mother remembers daughter killed in Knotts Island mobile home fire

KNOTTS ISLAND, N.C. - Currituck County firefighters responded to a report of a mobile home fire that happened Thursday morning at Porchard Lane around 8:15 a.m.

Knotts Island Engine 8 arrived to the scene first, and then Virginia Beach Engine 6 and Tanker 6 assisted with water supply and other fire ground operations.

We are told the fire was under control by 8:30 a.m.

A 24-year-old woman was found dead inside the home.

The family of the victim, Jenna White, tells News 3 she graduated from Pasquotank High School.

"She was loving. She was a hard worker," said her mother, Bonnie White.

Jenna is Bonnie's middle child.

"She was always willing to give to someone else," adds White.

Friends of the family are collecting donations for Jenna's funeral through GoFundMe to help with the unexpected expenses.

"We are going to do the best we can," said White.

This grieving mother also has a message for parents: "Always love your child and do what you can to help them."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No other injuries were reported.
