Man injured in Portsmouth sailboat fire

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - A man was injured in a sailboat fire on the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth Sunday morning.

According to Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services, the call for the fire came in around 5:58 a.m. When crews arrived to the scene in the Swimming Point area of the city, they found a sailboat in the water fully involved with flames.

A Good Samaritan assisted the boat's owner, the only person aboard, off the sailboat. The owner sustained minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital.

PFRES officials said that the U.S. Coast Guard and the Virginia Marine Police also responded to the incident.

The fire's cause remains under investigation.
