Fire damages Chesapeake home while family out of town

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - A family of four has been forced out of their home after a fire in the 500 block of Black Bear Court Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 3:30 p.m. after multiple residents nearby reported heavy black smoke in the area.

Engine Company 8 arrived on scene within four minutes to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the two-story home.

Firefighters entered the home and conducted a search, finding no people or animals inside. They later determined the homeowners were out of town.

The family consists of three adults and one child, officials say.

The fire was marked under control at 4:20 p.m.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
