Around 6 p.m., the first unit arrived to find flames coming from the roof of the home.

The house was condemned due to extensive damage, the Newport News Fire Department said.
While there is no indication that assistance was needed from the Red Cross, authorities say the home’s residents may have family or friends to stay with.
