Marine pilot ejects from F/A-18 off coast of Japan, search and rescue underway

IWAKUNI, Japan – Search and rescue efforts are underway for a U.S. Marine Corps pilot who ejected from an F/A-18 during a training flight.

The crash occurred at 6:40 p.m. local time approximately 120 miles southeast of Iwakuni, Japan.

The aircraft was assigned to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.

The U.S. Marine Corps and the III Marine Expeditionary Force both confirmed the crash via Twitter.
