NASSAWADOX, Va. – Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital was on lockdown until about 1 p.m. due to a stabbing, according to the Sheriff’s Office of Northampton County.
42-year-old Shellie Crockett was being medically treated by hospital staff after being stabbed multiple times in the parking lot of the hospital.
Deputies got to the scene at 7:40 a.m. and were told a short time later that Crockett had died from her injuries.
58-year-old Winston Leroy Burton has been arrested and charged with First Degree Murder in connection with Crockett’s death.
Burton is being held at the Eastern Shore Regional Jail without bond.
Peter Glagola with Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital said the incident is believed to be a domestic issue. Northampton County Sheriff David Doughty did not confirm that the situation was domestic.
