VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Virginia Beach firefighters are trying to figure out how the engine of a 50 feet vessel caught on fire Sunday afternoon.
Sunday afternoon, the captain of a sport cruiser called and reported his engine was on fire.
That’s when United States Coast Guard and Virginia Beach fire officials responded to incident right by 64th street.
The captain of the vessel was then able to turn his fuel off and jump onto another ship.
When fire crews arrived they were able to contain the fire, before eventually putting it out.
Nobody was hurt and a cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Virginia Beach Fire and Rescue has taken the lead on this investigation, while the United States Coast Guard based in Elizabeth City is assisting them, by enforcing a 50 feet safety zone around the damaged vessel.
