VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Neighbors in Sandbridge say rain water from the storms two weeks ago is still standing on their driveway and along nearby roads.

"It's very annoying," said Neal Phipps, who lives off of Sandpiper Road with his father James. "We're growing algae in the driveway. It's been here for two weeks and I'm sure we're producing mosquitoes."

Several inches of water remain at the base of his driveway. The water continues up around his car port, as well.  James Phipps, 97, says he's contacted the city and has been told drainage relief is part of a future plan for the city, perhaps ten years off. "I'm 97 now, so ten years is a long way off," James said. The family would like to see a culvert to help drain water closer to their house.

A spokesman for the city's public works department says workers are going back to see what's going on and that he would provide an update when he hears back from them.

For now, the Phipps family is worried about the potential for more flooding if Hurricane Matthew hits. Neal said he's expecting "more of the same is what it's going to be, but it'll probably be higher."
