NORFOLK, Va. - The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3160 held a surprise birthday party for a veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor who turned 95 years old.

Joseph Shea thought he was coming to the VFW for a get together with other veterans. After dinner was over, a birthday cake decorated with Hawaii's islands -his favorite- was brought out. The cake and surprise were the last thing Shea expected.

"I'm surprised. You know I'm really surprised. I think it's great that the organization has done this for me - it's just a total surprise and I'm really happy. So I'm not going to cut it - somebody else has to cut it," said Shea with a smile.

On Friday, the VFW also gave out certificates honoring World War II veterans in Hampton Roads.

"We wanted to do something special. So we incorporated all World War II veterans we could find so we could honor and respect their sacrifices and everything they've done for this country," said Noel Lumanog - VFW Post Surgeon.
