VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Hermine has left Hampton Roads, but not without leaving plenty of damage. Strong winds caused a tree to fall into a Virginia Beach apartment.

A tree at least decades old fell into an apartment building at the St. Croix luxury apartment complex.

"I couldn't understand it. Couldn't believe it," said Shannon Arledge, who lives exactly diagonal from where the tree fell sometime Friday night.

"What if it had been another six foot that way it would have fallen into my kid's room or hit me and my wife?" said Arledge, who said he still hasn't heard from the property manager about whether or not his family would be moved into a different apartment. Arledge added when firefighters arrived on scene they mentioned moving everybody in the building out because of the risk factor.

Arledge said because of the tree, he has drafts coming into the apartment, along with a musty smell. He doesn't feel safe living in his home with the tree leaning into it, or even letting his kids outside.

"I don't feel comfortable with them coming out at all unless they're going straight toward the car," said Arledge.

Arledge said he never expected Hermine to cause this much damage, having lived through bigger hurricanes in the past. Now, he's waiting for this intruder to finally get out of his home.
