VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Commonwealth is ranked 5th least expensive in average gas prices in the U.S., according to AAA.
The average price for gas in Virginia is $2.02 which is cents higher than last week but 20 cents lower than last year.
Hampton Roads is running head to head with the state average with the current price of regular gas at $2.01.
Although gas prices has climbed for the past 11 days, drivers are paying 27 cents less than they did at this same time last year.
Prices are also on track to be the lowest Labor Day gas prices in 12 years.
A number of factors have been driving up prices recently, including higher crude oil prices, refinery issues in the Gulf Coast, and the threat of tropical weather moving into the Gulf of Mexico.
