Coast Guard helps four on disabled boat near Chincoteague

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – The Coast Guard helped four people after their boat became disabled near Chincoteague on Thursday evening.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Chincoteague were notified of the disabled 22-foot pontoon boat at approximately 7:10 p.m. The boat was located just 200 yards from the Coast Guard Station.

The station launched a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water boat crew at 7:25 p.m. and it reached the disabled boat at 7:30 p.m.

The Coast Guard crew towed the boat to Town Dock South at 8 p.m.

“We were glad the vessel was in such close proximity to the station,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Clifton J. Perry, officer-on-duty at Station Chincoteague. “We also ask that boaters always make sure to properly inspect your equipment before getting underway and ensure the required amount Personal Flotation devices are on board.”
