Teen’s outdoor piano performance lifts spirits amid Louisiana flood damage

Posted

BATON ROUGE, La. — In the midst of a tragedy, one teenager in Baton Rouge was able to lift spirits and take disaster victims’ minds off the recent flood, even if just for a moment.

In a beautiful video posted on Facebook by John White, he captures a young man taking a break from cleanup to play the piano.

The young man, named Mark Chasuk, played Albert Pieczonka’s Tarantella.

“The piano took on four feet of water, so needless to say it’s a goner. But Mark had a long day and wanted to blow off some steam so this happened,” said White on Facebook.

“My name is John White and I created this video in Baton Rouge, LA.  These are kids from our HFH home school group helping one of their own during a time of need with demolitions,” White said on a GoFundMe page. This family is one from out of 16 families within our group that were dislocated and devastated by the historic Flood of 2016.”

Since Aug. 19, the video has exploded, accruing more than 2.3 million views and 17,000 shares on Facebook.
