Two arrested in deadly hit and run in Nags Head

NAGS HEAD, N.C. – Two men were arrested Tuesday for their involvement in a fatal hit and run crash that happened early Monday morning.

Jene-Paul Lemieux, 59, was hit and killed on South Croatan Highway near 8th Street around 3 a.m. Monday. Lemieux was driving a moped when he was hit by a vehicle heading in the same direction. The vehicle’s driver did not stop and left the scene.

The vehicle suspected to be involved in the crash was found Monday and police arrested two suspects Tuesday.

Luis Reyes Perez Morales, 33, of Manteo, was arrested around 10 p.m. Tuesday for driving the vehicle involved in the fatal crash.

Morales was charged with felony hit/run with death or serious injury, misdemeanor death by vehicle and misdemeanor no operator’s license. Morales was released Wednesday morning from the Dare County Detention Center after he posted $55,000 secured bond.

Nags Head Police also arrested Jorge Bartolon Perez, 22, of Manteo in connection with the incident. Perez was charged with felony accessory after the fact and resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer. He is currently in the Dare County Detention Center with a $15,000 secured bond.
