PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A local U.S. Navy Sailor assigned to the USS George H.W. Bush is facing several charges after reportedly attempting to rape and kill a female Sailor in September 2015.

According to court documents, Seaman Recruit Xavier Johnson held a pillow over the female Sailor’s entire face and banged her head against the floor until she was unconscious. Johnson then allegedly raped the woman while she was unconscious.

The court documents also outline several other assault incidents in which Johnson ripped out a civilian woman’s hair, bit her and strangled her.

The most recent incidents occurred in April 2016.

Johnson has been charged with Rape, Attempted Murder and Assault.

He was arraigned in a military court on Monday.  He is being held at the Naval Consolidated Brig in Chesapeake.
