Teen shot while walking to friend’s house in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va – A 17 year-old boy was shot in the left shin and right foot while walking to a friends house around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Dispatchers received calls reporting gunshots heard in the area of the 1300 block of Preakness Drive. When officers checked the area, officers found bullet casings but they did not find a victim.

An apartment and several vehicles were also hit by bullets during the shooting.

Just before 1 a.m., the teenage victim called police from his friend’s house on Colony Drive reporting he had been shot on Preakness Drive. He told police that he was walking down Preakness Drive when he passed a group of people. He said that’s when he heard shots and was hit in the shin and foot.

The teen was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The victim is also listed as a runaway from Hampton and had a probation violation out of Newport News.

There is no suspect information at this time and the shooting remains under investigation.
