HALIFAX, Va. - Getting pulled over is never fun. You get that sinking feeling the second you see the lights in your rear view mirror.
Some people start planning an excuse and others start to worry.
How fast was I going? Is my tail light out? How much will the ticket be?
On a hot summer day, with temps in the 90s, Halifax Police Chief Kevin Lands and Officer Brian Warner decided to try a different approach.
The pair purchased ice cream cones and handed them out to citizens instead of tickets.
When asked why he did it, Chief Lands said that he and Officer Warner, "wanted to try and put some smiles on people's faces."
Mission accomplished.
