VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. –According to police, 31-year-old Cornelius Courtney Beggs of Virginia Beach has been arrested in the murder of a local physician assistant.
Now, court records obtained by News 3 show gruesome new details in the murder.
34-year-old Lysa Story was found dead in her home located in the 5500-block of Finespun Last on Wednesday. Police told News 3 the call came in as an apparent gunshot wound, but they would not confirm whether or not Story was shot to death.
A search warrant filed in Virginia Beach Circuit Court challenges that information.
According to the warrant, when detectives arrived to the home, they noticed multiple wounds on Story’s body, made by “apparent edged or blunt weapon trauma.”
A search warrant for Story’s home shows police took numerous items, including a five lbs. weight, a knife, computers, a towel and a door.
“She was an RN. She was in the health field; super friendly, super talkative,” a neighbor told News 3’s Merris Badcock.
All neighbors we spoke with did not want to be identified for fear that Story’s killer is still out there.
“We didn’t know exactly what happened,” said one of Story’s neighbors. “We just knew something serious happened.”
In a separate search warrant, the victim’s mother told police her daughter’s car was missing from the home at the time her body was discovered. Police located the vehicle two blocks from the victim’s residence.
Court records show police took swabs and latent lifts from the vehicle, which is currently in the custody of the Virginia Beach Police Department.
“Story is survived by her six-month-old baby. When she was pregnant we were super excited for her, and gave her presents, talked to her,” a neighbor told News 3.
Multiple neighbors told News 3 about a boyfriend who stayed with Story often, the man who fathered her six-month old baby. Story’s Facebook page shows she got engaged in January. It is not yet clear if Beggs is the same man neighbors recognize, or if he is someone else entirely.
