NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A man was arrested on several charges Friday morning including rape, abduction, strangulation and assault.

Police and medics were called to the 3200 block of Roanoke Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Thursday on a report of a woman who needed assistance.

Officers located a 32-year-old Yorktown woman who reported she was physically and sexually assaulted by a man inside a nearby home.

According to police, the victim had visible injuries and escaped the home to seek help.

The victim indicated she had met a man at a gathering earlier in the evening and later went with the acquaintance to his home. While there, the man refused to allow her to leave, threatened to shoot her and assaulted her both physically and sexually.

The victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Officers located a man asleep inside a vacant residence the victim had identified. The man was detained and positively identified as Charles Randolph Jackson III.

A search warrant was conducted on the residence and evidence collected.

Charles Randolph Jackson III was charged with three counts of Rape, one count of Abduction, one count of Strangulation, and one count of Assault and Battery.
