SUFFOLK, Va. - Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to a two alarm fire at the Nuts for Wildlife facility, located in the 160 block of County Street.

Dispatch received the call at 11:43 a.m. on Sunday.

Units arrived at 11:45 a.m. and saw a large column of smoke outside of the warehouse.

Crews discovered that the fire involved peanut hull byproducts at the facility. The fire extended to parts of the roof of the building.

Due to the size of the warehouse and closeness of other structures, more crews responded. Volunteer departments filled in at the responding stations.

Two firefighters sustained non-life threatening injuries and taken to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment,

The fire was called under control at 3:38 p.m., but crews did not leave the scene until 7:53 p.m. due to the amount of overhaul that was required to remove bags of burned peanut skins.

The Fire Marshall will be conducting the investigation.
