VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Police are investigating after a house was ransacked, causing $20,000 worth of damage.

It happened sometime earlier this week to a house for sale on 78th Street. A neighbor showed a reporter pictures of the house and there is extensive damage and things thrown all around it.

"That's weird for someone to just come up and ransack the house," said Alford Smith, a neighbor. "I don't think they took anything, just destroyed it. Why?"

Neighbors heard noises on Monday afternoon, but thought it was construction. Nearby someone broke into another home around the same time. "It always makes you feel bad that someone comes and invades your personal space," said Lloyd Little, who owns the house. "We've been property owners for 35, 40 years and we've had very few incidents, so it's pretty surprising."

Neighbors saw a group of teenagers acting suspiciously around the time they believed this all happened, but in this North End neighborhood, crime is rare.
