Sherrod Cannon – conspiracy to interfere with commerce by means of robbery and to brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
NORFOLK, Va. – A Portsmouth man was sentenced Monday to spend 130 months behind bars for multiple armed robberies.
On February 25, 25-year-old Sherrod Cannon pleaded guilty to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by means of robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
The charges come from three separate armed robberies Cannon committed in Portsmouth and Chesapeake in April 2015.
The first robbery happened on April 10, 2015 at the 7-Eleven on 5001 Portsmouth Boulevard. The second happened on April 13, 2015 at the 7-Eleven on 3445 Western Branch in Chesapeake. The final robbery happened on April 27, 2015 on 3500 Deep Creek Boulevard in Portsmouth.
Cannon was indicted on October 22, 2015. Court documents say a surveillance video shows Cannon’s co-conspirator casing the store a few minutes before Cannon came into the store and pointed a revolver at the 7-Eleven employees.
Officers identified two suspects matching the description given by the victims, who later identified Cannon as the gunman.
Police found cash matching the amount taken from the registers evenly split between Cannon and his co-conspirator. Cannon also had a $2 bill, which the victim said was stolen from the register during the robbery.
Police also found a loaded .38 caliber revolver that was used during the robberies.
Cannon was also ordered to pay $731.55 in restitution. He was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release after his prison sentence.
