HAMPTON ROADS, Va. – Blackbeard’s Festival and the Patriotic Festival hosted large crowds this weekend.

After a tornado ripped through Blackbeard’s Pirate Festival in 2012, event organizers make sure they have a plan in place, starting with tying down the tents, “o make sure they don’t blow away we have everything from musical instruments to artillery pieces that we have to protect,” said Randy Gnatkowsky.

Ira Agricola, President of the Patriotic Festival said their concerts hosted more than 100,000 people over the weekend and they too have an evacuation and safety plan in the case of severe weather.” We have protocols in place and in fact today we did have a weather watch and that was announced to the crowd and then if we get to a weather warning situation then we do have an evacuation plan and security on site,” said Agricola.

Both events wrapped up before severe weather set in. Thunderstorms and rain is expected.
