NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A Newport News home was destroyed by a fire early Sunday morning.
Shortly after 4 a.m., the Newport News Fire Department responded to the home in the 400 block of Riverside Drive.
The house was quickly evacuated and due to the severity of the fire, extra engines were called to the scene as backup.
Around 5:15 a.m., NNFD tweeted that the main body of the fire had been knocked down, but firefighters were preparing to re-enter the home to check for hot spots.
Just before 8 a.m., NNFD reported that the back wall of the house had collapsed, and it had been declared a total loss.
Firefighters remained on scene putting out hot spots. Investigators are also on scene looking into the cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
