NORFOLK, Va. - A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday morning for the Norfolk Premium Outlets.

The outlets will be located where the Lake Wright Golf Course used to be, near the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and I-64.

Norfolk Mayor Paul Fraim, as well as Simon Premium Outlets COO Mark Silvestri and Simon's VP of Product Development Scott Richardson attended the groundbreaking.

The center will feature approximately 85 stores and is scheduled to open in the summer of 2017.

The construction of the center will generate more than 500 construction jobs and once it opens, there will be more than 800 full-time and part-time employees.
