Virginia Beach, Va. -  The sun is gone and so are the customers.

Flip-Flop Shops staff say today’s rain and cloudy skies have dampened their sales.

"It does make a difference because it is a flip-flop shop and who wants flip flops when it’s raining," store employee Jessica Buitrago said.

She says they’ve only had a handful of customers.

A different story from the past few days.

"Friday, we had pretty good sales. You know, the weather was beautiful. So it was really busy and constant all day long. Yesterday was also pretty constant," Buitrago explained.

With storms and showers expected for a few more days, Buitrago says she’ll have to keep approach at selling to customers in tip-top shape.

"We do have a lot of browsers. We  usually have to sell to them," Buitrago said.

But just a few feet away at Jody’s Popcorn, staff say customers can’t resist the smell of fresh popcorn.

"We’ve had about twice, maybe three times, as many people including Friday and Saturday combined," Jeremiah Burkett explained. "We’ve had heavy traffic.”

With a variety of popcorn available, Burkett says it a great day to relax and prepare for the holiday.

"Sunday is a day of rest. It’s a day when people are with their families," Burkett said.

Whether the sun comes out or not, staff at both stores say they’re already preparing for the next big weekend of vacationers.
