NORFOLK, Va. – A Norfolk Police K-9 who was killed in the line of duty was one of four dogs awarded by the American Kennel Club for their courageousness.
The AKC Paw of Courage award recognizes sacrifices of dogs who have been hurt or killed.
Four-year-old K-9 Officer Krijger who received the award served three years with the Norfolk Police Department before he was killed in January during a police standoff.
K-9s from Vermont, California and Texas also received the Paw of Courage award.
