navalSAN DIEGO – Navy investigators are offering $10,000 for information identifying the person or people responsible for a series of bomb hoaxes at Naval Base San Diego and nearby shipyards, according to our sister station, KSWB.

The latest threat came Tuesday morning at Pier 7 on Naval Base San Diego. Since November, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service has investigated 17 hoax threats that have forced work to stop on maintenance and repair of Navy ships.

“Threats of this nature are serious offenses requiring a significant response from law enforcement and enhancement to our force protection measures,” NCIS Special Agent in Charge Gunnar Newquist said.  “We are committed to protecting the lives of these workers and the property of the United States government.  We continue to work this investigation with full confidence in identifying and prosecuting the individual(s) responsible to the fullest extent possible.”

NCIS, along with BAE Shipyards and NASSCO,  have increased the reward for information leading to an arrest from $5,000 to $10,000. Tips can be submitted anonymously by texting to 274637 (CRIMES).  Type “NCIS” at the beginning of the text, then type and send the message, including as much information as possible.
