VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Jonnathan Miller told a NewsChannel 3 reporter different things about his involvement in the May 2 murder of Devin Lowery.

"Do you know who did this to him?" a reporter asked him. "No," he answered. "It wasn't you?" the reporter responded. "No, it was not," Miller said.

Due to a technical issue, the reporter had to do the interview again about 30-minutes later. "At this point in time, I'm not really able to say yay or nay," Miller said during the second interview when asked if he was involved.

The 20-year-old Chesapeake man was arrested and charged with murder in connection to the May 2 shooting death of 23-year-old Devin Lowery.

Lowery was found lying face down on the pavement in the 4500 block of Shallowford Circle just before 5 a.m. that morning.

Police say he had gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Miller said in between interviews he realized his attorney had told him not to say too much about the case. "In between, I realized I wasn't supposed to say that I didn't do it, not to say that I did, but I wasn't supposed to say either way."

He also offered an apology to the Lowery's family because he'd want the same if he were in their shoes. "I pray that there is remorse from the person that done it and I pray that there is forgiveness at some point in [the family's] life," Miller said.

Lowery's mom says she doesn't know why someone killed her son. He had only recently moved to Virginia Beach with his fiancee, who's in the Navy. "It was an extreme shock," said Barbara Bethea, Lowery's mom.

The family is hoping for justice. "He always made people laugh and I had no idea how much he was loved and all the people's lives he touched," Bethea said.
