Newport News, Va – A man’s dog is in critical condition after being shot during an attempted robbery Wednesday night.
Officers responded to the 4400 block of Baughman Court just before 10:30pm in reference to a shooting.
According to police, the man invited a friend to his apartment, and the friend attempted to rob him. During the attempted robbery, the friend fired gunshots striking the dog.
The friend fled from the apartment after the incident, police say. The dog also ran out of the apartment, to a nearby parking lot, where it was located by animal control.
The man was uncooperative with investigators about releasing the friend’s name.
The dog is in critical condition.
