NewsChannel 3's viewers took action and got results for the Suffolk Steelers football team.

Thieves stole thousands of dollars worth of shoulder pads, football pants, chin straps and mouth guards a few weeks ago. The gear was being stored inside a shed behind John F. Kennedy Middle School.

Now, the team can replace the gear thanks to the $2,200 in donations from the community.

"If you live right, treat people right, and pray, God will send you your blessing. NewsChannel 3 sent me my blessing," team founder David Baker said.

Baker was determined earn money for new gear, even if that meant mowing lawns during his free time. He was also planning to use his own cash.

"We would have played. We definitely were going to play. If I had to go in my own account and talk to my wife about it, we were going to play," he said.

Since NewsChannel 3 aired the story, several community members reached out to Baker wanting to take action for the team.

"The way people have been treating us and calling... it's just been amazing. I appreciate everything NewsChannel 3 did. Especially with taking action and getting the results we got," he said.

The team's football season starts August 1.
