Former mail carrier working in Suffolk sentenced for workers’ comp fraud

Posted

NORFOLK, Va. – A former Suffolk mail carrier was sentenced Tuesday to 13 months in prison for Federal Employees’ Compensation Fraud.

Ronald Henderson, 58, was also ordered to pay $163,956.23 in restitution to the Department of Labor.

Henderson pleaded guilty to the charge on December 2, 2015.

Court documents say Henderson falsely claimed to have injured his shoulder while on the job in Suffolk. However, the injury actually happened while he was off-duty.

In addition to getting compensation as a result of the false claim, Henderson filed hundreds of false travel claims seeking reimbursement for medical costs.

Henderson also failed to notify the Department of Labor after he returned to work and “double dipped” by receiving workers’ comp and his normal paycheck at the same time.
