TCC announces new Accelerated Degree program

NORFOLK, Va. – Tidewater Community College has announced they will now be offering an Accelerated Degree program allowing students to obtain an Associate of Science in General Studies in just one year.

The program usually takes two years, but in the new program, students can be put their education on the fast track!

Upon completion of the program, students may transfer their credits to a four-year college or university to work toward bachelor’s degrees.

Students who participate in the Accelerated Degree can save thousands by completing two years of college at TCC versus a 4-year institution.

Accelerated-degree students will attend classes in 11- and 12-week sessions for one year to earn the necessary 61 credits. The academic schedule is:

  • Session I: July 5 – Sept. 27
  • Session II: Oct. 3 – Dec. 21
  • Session III: Jan. 3 – April 4, 2017
  • Session IV: April 10 – June 27, 2017

Courses are tentatively scheduled to meet Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with at least one online course for each session.

“Our new Accelerated Degree lets students put their education and career into high gear,” said Jeffery Boyd, provost of the Norfolk Campus. “TCC is the first community college in Virginia to launch a program like this.”

TCC is accepting applications for the program, which is open to high school graduates as well as adult learners and military-related students who meet certain academic requirements.
