VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A man will spend the next 10 years behind bars after police say he actually admitted to trying to rape a woman at a Virginia Beach laundromat.

James Curtis Williams, 44, was reading a book at the Coin Wash laundromat on Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach. He approached a woman who was there doing her laundry.

He tried to talk to the woman and then exposed himself to her.

Officials say he grabbed her by the arm and shoulder, forcing her to the floor.

The woman started to scream for help.

Another woman went into the laundromat and the victim yelled for her to call police.

She was able to escape and she went to a business nearby.

Williams sat on the curb outside of the laundromat until police arrived.

This attack was captured on surveillance.

Williams admitted to the crime. He was previously convicted for attempted vehicular manslaughter.

A judge sentenced him to the maximum punishment which is well over the high-end of the Virginia State Sentencing Guidelines’ recommendation.
