VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A petition created just 6 days ago has surpassed its original goal of 1,500 signatures.
A group supporting principal Dr. Brian Matney created a change.org petition after the Landstown High School principal was abruptly put on administrative leave on April 15th.
According to the petition, Matney does not know why he was placed on leave and his supporters are demanding answers.
The faculty, students, parents and friends who stand behind Matney rallied together on April 19 to question the school board about the change in administration.

No clear answers were provided. School board members said they could not comment because this is a personnel matter, but they did say it was done as a safety concern.
NewsChannel 3 spoke to Eileen Cox on Tuesday and said the personnel matter is ongoing and they cannot comment at this time in order to allow proper time for the investigation as well as protect privacy of individuals involved.
The petition currently has 1,460 signatures. Matney has been on administrative leave for a total of 11 days.
