VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. –  Governor Terry McAuliffe joined students from Virginia Beach Middle School on April 21 in hands-on investigations as they examined fish, crabs, oysters and tested water quality.

The students are participating in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s (CBF) environmental education program, which provides hands-on outdoor learning experiences to Virginia students.

The governor’s visit comes in celebration of Earth Day and also falls in National Environmental Education Week and supports his Environmental Literacy Challenge initiative, which calls on Virginia teachers and administrators to engage students in outdoor experiences that improve their understanding of the environment.

Governor McAuliffe also briefly toured the CBF’s Brock Environmental Center, which is one of the most environmentally smart buildings in the world.
