Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) - Kylie Blake had a simple idea: she wanted to raise funds to create care packages to send to Military Working Dogs deployed overseas.
NewsChannel 3 first told you about Kylie's idea in November.
Since then, Blake raised in excess of $2,700, allowing her to send more than 60 care packages to service dogs in places like Germany, Guam, Afghanistan and Iraq.
She filled the boxes with stuff like toys, blankets and comfort items. Many of the handlers who received the packages would send Kylie a note and photos showing the dogs with the goods.
"It makes me feel happy that they actually care and stuff that I sent it and they send pictures about it," Kylie told NewsChannel 3's Todd Corillo Wednesday.
The 5th grader says the experience has also taught her an important lesson.
"I learned that there’s more than you actually think. That there are better things than you actually expected."
