Norfolk, Va. – Hampton Roads Transit is launching a safety campaign for Norfolk’s light rail system, The Tide.

The campaign, called “See Tracks? Think Train,” launched April 3 and will continue to run through the spring.

HRT has two billboards on I-264 east of Ballentine Boulevard and I-264 east of Frederick Boulevard promoting the campaign. HRT trains will be wrapped with “See Tracks? Think Train” and “Keep off the Tracks” safety messages. Sidewalk clings will be placed in areas near the rail stations.

HRT representatives will be at various locations to spread the safety awareness message throughout April. April 29 is the 5th anniversary of Public Transportation Safety Day in Virginia.

The Tide was awarded a $20,000 grant from Operation Lifesaver, Inc. to support rail safety initiatives.

Operation Lifesaver is a national organization to preventing accidents on rail system. The “See Tracks? Think Train” campaign was developed with the Association of American Railroads and the United States Department of Transportation.
